Instagram has tailored its Explore Tab in order to offer more personalized content to its users. Announced in 2012, the Explore tab shows you photos and videos of persons you don’t know and the ones that are not in you friend list. It was a replacement to the Popular section. Hence, users are forced to view these random media content against their will.
Mike Krieger, Instagram co-founder tipped off to the change with a post on Facebook saying
If it’s been a while since you checked out the Instagram Explore page, give it a whirl; the team’s been working on incorporating personalized content in there now, too.
Instagram has changed the algorithm that determines what posts appear under the app’s Explore tab. Now, users will see photos and videos of the people they actually know. To CNET it said,
We’re always looking to update the types of posts you see in Explore to better tailor it to you. We’ll show you a variety of photos and videos that people you follow have liked, as well as content that is trending in the Instagram community.
It’s explore tool is focused on drawing users attention to the most popular content on the surface at any given time. The change int the algorithm will also show its users content based around who they follow. Instagram which has 200 million users recently gave its Android app a much-needed revamp.
