Worldwide tablet shipment hit 57.6 million units in the first quarter of 2014, as per latest report from Strategy Analytics. The global tablet shipment saw 19 percent from 48.3 million in Q1 2013. As expected Android maintained the top spot and grabbed 65.8% of the global tablet market up from 53 percent a year ago.
Apple came in second and was responsible for 28.4 percent of the market share down from 40.3 percent a year earlier. The company sold 16.4 million iPads in Q1 2014 which declined 16 percent annually. Strategy Analytics attributed the slump in shipment of the tables to Apple’s change in the product cycle. However, the firm thinks that Apple will bounce back high-end market share during the final months of 2014.
Meanwhile, Windows tablet share hit 5.8 percent during the same period as the company sold 3.4 million tablets up from 2.8 million a year earlier. Android continues to be the leader in global smartphone and tablet market as it offers an array of affordable products.
