Shopping on Twitter might be a reality soon. The micro blogging site is testing a “Buy Now” button that will enable users to buy things directly from the platform.
Spotted first by Re/Code, the buttons were spotted only on mobile devices and users were not able to actually purchase the item from there. The buttons were found on several tweets from the shopping app “Fancy.” The tweets advertised various products including Nike shoes, a bookcase and a Nest thermostat. These buttons are no longer visible on the mobile app and neither the web version.
The “Buy now” button appears to be similar to the “Download” button that shows up in app-install ads. Twitter has been struggling to garner revenue from advertising, The “Buy Now” button just a day after Twitter acquired mobile ad tech firm TapCommerce. There is no official word from Twitter regarding these buttons.
This is not the first time Twitter has tapped into e-commerce. In May, Amazon teamed up with Twitter to allows users to add products to their Amazon shopping carts directly through tweets.
