Display and Hardware
The tablet has a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch display at a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The display is bright, has good sunlight legibility and the viewing angles are good. Since the display is shiny, it is a fingerprint magnet. You need to wipe the screen often to remove the fingerprints. Since the tablet has a huge bezel around the display, it is not easy to hold it comfortably for one-handed usage, especially for voice calls.
It has an earpiece above the display and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera that can record videos at VGA resolution. The proximity and ambient light sensor are present next to the camera.
The tablet is 9.2mm thick. Since the plastic on the sides are a bit slippery and shiny, it might not be easy to hold.
The power button and the volume rockers are present on the left side of the tablet. These buttons are located on the back, letting you access them easily when holding it.
The 3.5mm audio jack is present on the top.
There is a primary microphone hole and a micro USB slot on the bottom.
The tablet has plastic build on the back. The back is divided into three parts. The top part has a removable plastic cover and has the 5-megapixel camera module with LED flash. The bottom part is present just below the loudspeaker grill. Both the top and bottom parts have shiny finish and the center part has a smooth plastic finish. There is a tiny rim dividing these parts. The rim is shiny and gets scratches easily when you place the tablet on a rough surface. It weighs 285 grams, which is normal for a tablet with 7-inch displays. The build quality is decent for the price.
You can open the plastic cover on back easily to insert SIM cards and the memory card.
It has two normal or mini SIM card slots and a micro SD card slot that accepts cards up to 32GB.
Camera
The 5-megapixel auto focus rear camera is decent. Daylight shots and macro shots were fine, but the low light shots have a lot of noise. Flash helps in low-lighting conditions, but images still have noise. It has MediaTek camera UI and similar features seen on most smartphones and tablets running on Android Jelly Bean. The 2-megapixel front-facing camera is below average. Check out some camera samples (Click to view the full resolution image) below.
It can record videos at 1080p full HD resolution at 30fps, but the video quality is just average without any details. Check out the video sample below

Software
The Digiflip Pro XT 712 runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), which is pretty much stock. You can swipe down from the top left for notification and swipe down from the top right for Quick Settings. It has lockscreen widgets, Daydream, Quick Settings, Photo filters in the gallery and lots more features. You can launch Google now from the lockscreen or the homescreen by swiping up from the bottom.
Out of 16GB of internal storage you get 12GB of user storage and 1.5GB for apps. Out of 1GB of RAM, about 660MB of RAM is free when the table is idle. You can set the SD card default write disk, but you can move apps only to the mass storage and not the SD card.
Apps
It comes with the usual set of utility apps and Google apps. It also has official Flipkart app and Flipkart eBooks app. Flipkart offers free pre-selected eBooks worth Rs. 2,300 and more freebies with the tablet. The tablet doesn’t come with any other bloatware.
Music Player and FM Radio
The music player is stock and can play a range of audio formats. The sound effects equalizer settings has different equalizer presets. You can also enable Bass boost and 3D effect features once you connect your earphones. It has FM Radio with recording feature, but lacks RDS. Audio through the bundled earphones is decent, but the loudspeaker output is low. The stock video player can play 1080p full HD videos in a range of video formats smoothly.
Dual SIM and Connectivity
In terms of Dual SIM support, the tablet is similar to the Dual SIM smartphones. You can call or text using either SIM cards. You can choose either SIM cards when you place a call, if you choose always ask option. It’s the same even with text messages. You get the SIM card name or the number both in the call logs and the message Inbox. It has 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS. You also get a USB OTG cable in the box that could be used to connect a pen drive and access the data in it, but it doesn’t support data cards or dongles.
Performance and Benchmarks
It is powered by a MediaTek MT8382 SoC with 500 MHz Mali 400-MP2 GPU. The performance is pretty good without any lags. Thanks to 1GB RAM, multitasking is pretty good. Check out the synthetic benchmark scores below.
Quadrant Benchmark
It scored 5795 points in the Quadrant Benchmark and lies just behind the Nexus 7 (2013).
AnTuTu Benchmark 4
It scored 15668 points in the AnTuTu Benchmark 4.
Vellamo 2.0 HTML5
It scored 1799 points in the Vellamo 2 HTML5 browser benchmark. Check out the complete set of Digiflip Pro XT 712 benchmarks here. We tried several games, including some high-end games. Most games were fine with occasional frame drops, even graphics is decent. Check out the gaming review below.

Battery Life
Coming to the battery life, the 3000 mAh battery lasts for a day with average use. With continuous 3G usage, video playback and intensive gaming, it lasts for less than a day.
Conclusion
At a price tag of Rs. 9,999, the Digiflip Pro XT 712 is a decent tablet in the range. It has decent build, comes with 3G connectivity and Dual SIM support, but there are some drawbacks such as glossy display and poor front-facing camera. It also runs on older version of Android and is not compact to use for voice calls. If you can compromise these things, go for it.
Pros
- Dual SIM support with voice calling
- 16GB of internal storage with expansion slot
- Competitive price tag
Cons
- Display is too glossy
- Loudspeaker output is low
- Poor front-facing camera
