Instagram has unveiled Bolt, a one tap messaging app that is live in few selected countries. Available on Android and iOS, the new app lets you send one-tap photo and video messages to your friends.
It is currently available only in Singapore, South Africa, and New Zealand however, Instagram said that it will soon launch the app globally. Similar to other ephemeral apps, Bolt allows users to send quick messages that self-destruct by merely tapping on a user’s photo on a smartphone screen.
Users will be able to send photos simply by tapping the contact they want to send it to, while a longer press will instead begin recording a video. Recipients of the photos and videos will also be able to respond and can just swipe in order to delete them. Bolt allows four favorite friends to appear on the main screen, although up to 20 can be stored and accessed by swiping right to left. Users can only send messages to one person at a time. The app does not let you find contacts from Facebook or Instagram and instead it pulls up contacts from your mobile.
Self destructing messaging apps are gradually becoming a rage and can be touted as the next wave after instant messaging. Bolt competes with Snapchat and Facebook owned Slingshot.
