Microsoft has announced the Lumia Denim, the next firmware update that brings several new features including 4K video recording (only in Snapdragon 800-powered devices), improvements to Lumia Camera and combines new enhancements from the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 such as Cortana, Live folders, Apps Corner and more.
New features in Lumia Denim update
- Speed: Never miss a moment with Lumia Camera and its fast camera startup and capture speeds. Take numerous photos with just milliseconds between shots.
- High definition: Using Moment Capture, a long press of the camera button within the app automatically starts 4K-quality video recording at 24 frames per second. Each frame is of high image quality at 8.3 megapixels, allowing every single video frame to be selected and saved as a still image.
- Lumia Camera: Replacing Nokia Camera, Lumia Camera is faster and more intuitive than before to make the best camera experience, even better.
- Rich Capture: Auto HDR and Dynamic Flash are now welcomed into the already-impressive feature set. Shoot first and adjust the camera settings later for that perfect photo.
- Improved image processing algorithms: Updated to give you clearer photos, even in low light.
- “Hey Cortana” Voice Activation: Gone are the days of pressing the microphone button to wake-up Cortana. Simply say “Hey Cortana” while the phone is idle and Cortana will activate. This is possible thanks to the SensorCore technology.
- Glance Screen: Compatible Lumia devices can now show more at a glance with Bing Weather, or Bing Health & Fitness data, in addition to time and date, notifications and application data.
Lumia Camera will initially roll out as an update with Lumia Denim for Lumia 930, Lumia Icon and Lumia 1520 and as an over-the-air update for Lumia 830 in Q4 2014.
The Lumia Denim update comes pre-loaded in the Lumia 830, Lumia 730 Dual SIM and Lumia 735 that were unveiled today. It will roll out as an over-the-air update to all the other Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones later.
