Google is making paid Play Newsstand content available in India. Users can now access paid content from newspapers and magazines this essentially means they can buy and subscribe for premium news sources like The New York Times, WSJ and so on.
The company has teamed up with over 30 partners including India Today, Mint, NDTV and many more. Google updated Google Currents to Newsstand last year. Compatible with smartphones and tablets the app offers contents like blogs, breaking news, research articles from a range of categories such as sports, business, cooking, entertainment, fashion and more.
Prior to this update, paid content in Newsstands was only available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, and France. Google made this announcement yesterday along with the launch of Android One smartphones in India. The company also announced offline mode for YouTube in the country.
