Just after announcing the latest iPhones and the Watch, Apple is all set to update its iPad line this year, specifically on the 16th of October, according to a report from recode. The event is supposedly a laid back affair, after the high profile announcements that happened last month. It is seemingly centered around, not just new iPads, but new iMacs too, which are awaiting a retina display refresh, if rumours are to be believed. If Apple goes ahead with just a refresh of the iPads, the event will feature the sixth generation of the original and the third generation of the iPad mini, but anything otherwise will be interesting to watch.
The iPad’s journey, until the Air, has been peppered with minimal changes in design, but massive improvements in power and display quality. The iPad Air brought in some much needed changes to design, bringing it in line with the Mini, but then, the performance improvements haven’t really been put to further use since the 4. The retina mini, on the other hand, had reached parity in performance with the iPad Air and we expect that to continue.
Some rumours of a bigger 12 inch iPad are doing the usual rounds on the internet, but this time, there is no solid proof that it’s coming, so we are not hoping for one, really. But if it happens, we hope the form factor maintains its dimensions, as we feel the iPad’s size is already perfect, more so with the mini. We can expect A8 to feature in both the iPads, which means massive boost in performance, yet again. With the tablet market slowing down with longer refresh cycles, lets see if Apple can reinvigorate the market it helped create. We’ll be closely following the event, so remember the date and visit our blog for all the details that day.
