Cyanogen secures $80 million in latest round of funding


Cyanogen has received $80 million in latest round of funding from Premji Invest. This funding comes just a week after it was reported that the company raised $110 million.

Cyanogen plans to utilize the newly raised capital to hire talent and speed up the development of its OS platform. Investors included Premji Invest, Twitter Ventures, Qualcomm Incorporated, Telefónica Ventures, Smartfren Telecom, Index Ventures, and Access Industries. The company has its own mobile operating system, called Cyanogen OS, that’s built completely on Android.

Cyanogen Inc. partnered with OnePlus last year for the OnePlus One, which is the first official Cyanogen OS smartphone. Micromax’s YU partnered with Cyanogen few months back to use the OS in their YU series of smartphones starting with YU YUREKA in India. The company recently partnered with Alcatel One Touch by TCL Communication to introduce Alcatel One Touch Hero 2+ running on Cyanogen OS. Alcatel OneTouch had said at that time that it will introduced more devices with Cyanogen OS in 2015 and beyond.
