Gionee introduced the Elife E8, the latest camera flagship in the E series at an event in Beijing few hours back. We got to check out the smartphone at the launch event, here is the hands on and hardware overview of the smartphone.
The Elife E8 has a 6-inch Quad HD screen with a resolution 2560 x 1440 pixels and a pixel density of about 489ppi. It even has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection. The display looks bright. It has a aluminum magnesium alloy frame that feels good to hold, but the phone seems a bit huge for small hands.
The E8 is powered by a 2 GHz Octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit processor with PowerVR G6200 GPU and has 3GB of RAM. There is a 8-megapixel rear camera on the front, which is good for selfies. It runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) with Amigo UI 3.1 on top.
The phone even has a dedicated camera button along with the volume rockers and a power button on the right side. It is 9.6mm thick and weighs 207 grams. There is nothing on the left side.
The 3.5mm audio jack is present on the top and the micro USB slot is present on the bottom along with a small microphone hole.
On the back there is a 23.7-megapixel camera with dual tone LED Flash, 1 / 2.3″ sensor, 6P lenses and a second-generation tri-axial OIS image stabilization technology that promises better image stabilization compared to other smartphones. It can shoot 120MP images by combining several shots into a high resolution image and has 4K video recording. There is a sensor for Biological Fingerprint recognition, below the camera module, which can be used for secured locking and payments. It also has stereo speakers with DTS support and NXP Smart PA audio chip for an enhanced audio output.
Under the removable back cover, it has two SIM card slots with support for 4G in both and a microSD card slot that accepts cards up to 128GB. It has Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, GPS, USB OTG and NFC support. There is a built-in 3520mAh battery. The Gionee Elife E8 comes in Golden color and is priced at 3999 RMB, which coverts to about Rs. 41,000. Gionee will launch the smartphone in India sometime in August.
