Google which is now a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc has received a new code of conduct. Earlier it was “Don’t be evil” and the new code of conduct is “Do the right thing”.
Google’s old code of conduct, “Don’t be evil” was first introduced in 2004 and was offered along with the company’s first IPO. Over the years Google has been criticized by many to not having held their own to that code of conduct.
The new code of conduct by Alphabet states that it and its subsidiaries must do the right thing ie follow the law, act honorably and treat each other with respect. Google’s code of conduct had included rules about drinking at work – a little is alright but not much, taking pets to the office – dogs are fine but cats are discouraged etc.
However, Alphabet is simpler and straight to the point that sticks to just the basics. Since the majority of Alphabet employees will still be Google employees, this change affects them too.
