Earlier today at an event in China, Xiaomi unveiled its flagship Mi 5 smartphone, later Hugo Barra introduced the smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 in Barcelona. We got to check out the smartphone at the MWC, here is the photo gallery to give you a quick look at the hardware of the smartphone.
The Mi has a 5.15-inch 1080p curved glass display with 95% of the NTSC color gamut, up to 600 nits brightness and 1500: 1 contrast ratio. Xiaomi said that it has 21 patents for the display alone. It is powered by a Quad-Core Snapdragon 820 processor. There is a 4MP camera on the front with 2um pixel size, f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree wide-angle lens, also seen on the front are the usual set of proximity and ambient light sensors. The fingerprint sensor is embedded into the home button.
It runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with MIUI 7 on top. This is the 64GB version with 3GB of RAM and the processor is clocked at 2.15GHz in this variant. It also comes in a 32GB variant with the same 3GB of RAM, but the processor is clocked at 1.8GHz. There is a Mi 5 Pro which has 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage and 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 processor.
The smartphone has a metal frame. The power button and the volume rockers are present on the right side. It measures 144.55×69.2×7.25mm and weighs just 129 grams. The Pro variant is slightly heavy at 139 grams since it has a ceramic back.
The SIM slot is present on the left side. It has dual nano SIM slots, but doesn’t have a microSD expansion slot.
On the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack, infrared sensor for remote and a secondary microphone. The antenna bands can also be seen.
On the bottom there is a USB Type-C port along with the microphone and speaker grills.
On the back there is a 16MP camera with dual-tone LED flash, Sony IMX298 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, 4-axis OIS and 4K video recording.
Both the 32GB and 64GB variants of the Mi 5 have glass back and come in Black, White and Gold colors, while the Mi 5 Pro has a ceramic back and is available only in Black color. It packs a 3,000mAh (typical) / 2910mAh (minimum) built-in battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
The base 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and 1.8GHz Snapdragon 820 Mi 5 version is priced at 1999 Yuan (US$ 306 / Rs. 20,969 approx), 3GB RAM, 64GB storage and 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 Mi 5 version is priced at 2299 Yuan (US$ 351 / Rs. 24,092 approx) and the high-end 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 Ceramic back Mi 5 Pro costs 2699 Yuan (US$ 413 / Rs. 28,312 approx.)
