Samsung today launched Gear 360, its first 360 degree virtual reality camera in Korea, as it had promised at the Developer Conference earlier this week in San Francisco. It was announced that the MWC 2016 earlier this year, comes with dual fish-eye lenses with 15 megapixel image sensors and can capture high-resolution (3840×1920) 360-degree video that also supports 30 megapixel still images.
Each lens takes in 195 degrees, with the overlap removing any gaps when 360 images are stitched together. Users can shoot 180-degree wide-angle video and images with only using one side of the camera lens. It comes with a micro SD card (u pto 128GB) and micro USB port under a removable flap. Also present here is a 1,350mAh battery pack. The Gear 360 supports IP53 dust and water resistance rating.
There is a small screen on the top of the device right next to the record button which lets you see what mode you are in on the display. The Gear 360 is compatible with select Samsung smartphones that include the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6+, Note5, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6.
The Samsung Gear 360 is priced at 399,300 Korean Won (US$ 350 / 23,300 approx.) and is available for purchase from Samsung online store in Korea. It will be available across 450 stores nationwide starting from May. It also comes with a free 64GB Samsung EVO Plus microSD card as a limited period launch offer.
