We have heard a number of reports since the beginning of this year about Apple’s plans to ditch the 3.5mm audio headphone jack for the next iPhone. Now a new report from the Wall Street Journal says that the company is indeed doing away with the headphone jack.
The report corroborates earlier rumors which suggested that Apple is removing the headphone jack to make the iPhone 7 thinner and improve its water resistance.
Apple is expected to offer a Lightning connector that will double up as a port for charging the phone and for connecting headphones. Giving further insights about the design of the iPhone, the report says this year’s iPhone will sport a design a similar to the iPhone 6s and 6s plus. The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus will continue to feature 4.7 and 5.5-inch displays, with only “subtle changes”.
Apple is tipped to bring major design changes for iPhones in 2017 which may include an edge-to-edge OLED display and the elimination of the Home button.
Earlier this week, a leak suggested that the iPhone 7 could come with dual SIM cards. . Previous leaks have suggested that the iPhone 7 will have a larger camera module, four speaker grilles. It is also speculated that Apple will get rid of the antenna lines at the back however the latest report says that they might stay.
