Earlier this week, Google’s Duo video calling app was launched for Android and iOS. Now it looks like the app will soon allow audio-only calls.
Google’s product lead for communication Amit Fulay has confirmed that audio-only calls will come to Duo “soon.” Fulay commented on a Google Plus thread that the feature is “coming soon” while replying to someone posted question. Duo reduces the resolution to keep the call going smoothly in case of limited bandwidth. It even switches between Wi-Fi and cellular data automatically without dropping your call. Moreover, the app intelligently turns a video call into an audio-only call when the connection is poor.
Google Duo already supports HD (720p) video calling and is optimized to work on low bandwidth mobile networks. The app will be available in 78 languages when it is globally launched.
