Western Digital has unveiled SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO SDXC, which is currently the world’s highest capacity SD card announced. It introduced that first 512GB SD card back in 2014. This is targeted at users those who shoot 4K videos on their DSLR, advanced digital or HD video cameras and also capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video.
Western Digital did not announce when the SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO SDXC card will be available or its pricing. The company will show off a prototype at Photokina this week.
Commenting on the announcement, Dinesh Bahal, vice president, product management, Content Solutions Business Unit, Western Digital, said:
Showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies is truly exciting for us. Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry. The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates.
