Lenovo launched the PHAB 2 Plus smartphone with dual rear cameras earlier this month priced at Rs. 14,999 exclusively on Amazon.in. We already brought you the unboxing of the smartphone, here we have camera samples from the phone. The PHAB 2 Plus has a dual 13-megapixel cameras on the back with dual-tone LED Flash, f/2.0 aperture, Futjitsu Milbeaut ISPs, 1.34μm pixel size, Laser Auto Focus and phase-detection-auto-focus (PDAF). It has a 8-megapixel camera on the front with f/2.2 aperture, 1.4 μm pixel and LED flash.
The camera UI is simple and is similar to most other Lenovo smartphones that includes a toggle for front and rear camera, HDR toggle, flash toggle, settings, image preview, video recording and camera shutter buttons and option to change modes (capture, AR, Pro (to adjust white balance, focus, shutter speed, ISO (100 to 1600) and exposure), Dual Camera, Group Selfie, Panorama and Night.
Coming to image quality, Daylight shots are good and have crisp details and colors. Macro shots are good as well, the focus is quick, thanks to Laser autofocus and PDAF, but touch to focus doesn’t work properly, so you have to use point to focus to focus on something. HDR shots came out well, low-light shots have a lot of noise as usual. Images with flash are decent, and the dual-tone LED flash helps to maintain skin-tone, but it might be overpowering for close up shots.
Coming to dual cameras, the secondary camera lets you capture the depth of field in the Dual Camera Mode and allows focusing after capturing the image. This doesn’t work that well, since the blurring effect is not even and the final output is reduced to 0.8MP or 1040 x 780 resolution. The background replacement is interesting, which lets you cut a part of the image and place it different images, including your own images that are on the phone.
The AR mode lets you insert an animated virtual objects into your photos and videos. You can choose Dragon, Cat, Dog and Fairy that will also perform some actions. The final image is in size of 1280 x 720 pixels. Lenovo asks you to aim the phone at a flat surface for a better experience. This will impress kids, but it is nothing much. The company could have provided an option to download more characters.
The front-facing camera is good for seflies and video chats. The flash light on the front glows continuously when turned on, and it is not bright so it is not much useful in dark conditions.
Overall it’s an average camera for the price and there is nothing exceptional with dual cameras seen in some high-end phones like the Honor 8.

Front Camera
It can record videos at 1080p full HD resolution at 30 fps. Video quality is good, but it is not bright and has focusing issues just like the images. Thanks to Dolby Audio Capture with Triple Array Microphones, audio is crisp. It also has HDR mode for video, which makes the video bright. Check out the sample videos below.
We will bring you the complete review of the smartphone soon.
