MediaTek has announced its Dual 4G VoLTE (Voice over LTE) solution that supports dual SIM, dual stand-by for VoLTE. MediaTek Helio X30 that was introduced earlier this year is the first SoC to support dual 4G VoLTE on the China Mobile network.
If you don’t know, VoLTE is a 4G LTE network-based, high-definition voice technology for high-speed wireless voice and video communications over a 4G network. Compared to traditional 2G and 3G networks, VoLTE offers HD voice and video calls that are lower latency and higher audio and visual quality.
Regarding Dual 4G VoLTE solution, MediaTek said:
Currently, 4G smartphones on the market allow only the primary SIM card to support VoLTE, while the secondary card can only use 2G/3G, which diminishes the calling and internet browsing experience. MediaTek’s Dual 4G VoLTE solution is highly integrated and optimized within the Helio X30 and future smartphone platforms, maximizing the usability of dual VoLTE with stable calling quality and high data transfer rates, offering consumers better internet and calling experiences.
MediaTek also introduced its first narrow band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) System-on-Chip (SoC), the MT2625 and also announced partnership with China Mobile to build the world’s smallest NB-IoT module (16mm X 18mm) around the chipset.
MediaTek Dual 4G VoLTE solution will be first introduced for China Mobile. Since the MediaTek X30 SoC is already shipping to OEMs, we might see the chip with dual 4G VoLTE for Reliance Jio in India soon.
