Facebook is working on a standalone app for group video chat, according to a report from The Verge. Dubbed as Bonfire, the app is said to be similar to the Houseparty app that was launched last year.
According to the report, Facebook has demonstrated the app to employees recently. The Bonfire app is slated for launch by the fall of this year after going through beta testing with the company’s employees. For those unaware, Houseparty app was launched by Ben Rubin who made Meerkat live streaming app, that could not keep up with increasing popularity of Periscope. Launched in September last year, Houseparty instantly became a hit with teenagers and grew to over a million users by November 2016.
Facebook recently announced that it now has over 2 billion monthly active users on its platform. It will be interesting to see what Facebook has to offer with the group video app.
