Google is gearing up to launch Android O any day now, and the actual name of the next iteration of Android is still unknown. It looks the company will soon reveal the name of Android O by the end of this month.

Android Police’s David Ruddock, in a series of tweets, has revealed that Google might announce the operating system’s official name on August 21, the day of the solar eclipse. He further added that he knows the actual name of Android O but will not “ruin the surprise for others”. Google is said to be planning a big event around the next OS unveiling instead of simply announcing the name. Android version are named after desserts and it has been rumored for a long time that Android O will be ‘Oreo’.
The US will see a solar eclipse on August 21 and Ruddock says that Google is planning some amount of “spectacle” around the name unveiling. In addition to Ruddock, popular tipster Evan Blass has also corroborated the date of Android O name unveiling to August 21.

Google announced Android O during the Google I/O 2017. The new operating system brings new features like Notification Dots, Picture-in-Picture, Autofill and Smart text selection. It is currently compatible with Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C tablet, Google Pixel and Pixel XL devices. Google recently released the final Android 8.0 O Developer Preview 4.
