Google Home Mini is without a doubt the most affordable smart speaker to have with Google’s Assistant support. However, shortly after the launch, the company had to disable the touch sensor as the smartphone speaker was accidentally recording everything on random occasions to which later Google promised to roll out a fix and the day is finally here.
The touch sensor functionality with the latest is now coming back with small tweaks. Instead of tapping the top of the Home Mini, now you’ll be able to long-press the side.
Right after users have started reporting the issue, Google said that only a small number of Home Minis had a touch sensor calibration issue that made Home Mini triggered on its own. As Google couldn’t tell which unit had the issue, it opted to disable the functionality while it works on a fix.
All the touch functionality is now coming back in the form of long-press on the side which will let you play/pause music, end phone calls, and silence alarms without speaking to the device, but won’t you trigger voice input as it was before with the touch control. The firmware update with V1.29 is starting to roll out today, and it will be a preview update initially.
