Unlike the LCD display on the P20, the P20 Pro features a 6.1-inch ( 2240 x 1080 pixels) Full HD+ OLED 19:9 aspect ratio 2.5D curved glass display on the front with a notch. It has ultra-thin bezels and a screen-to-body ratio of 82%. It has a fingerprint sensor on the bezel, below the screen.
You can also hide the notch with an option in the settings that blackens the top area, if you think it looks awkward. The notch houses the earpiece, sensors and the 24-megapixel front-facing camera with AI beautification, 3D portrait lighting and support for face unlock.
It is powered by Octa-Core Huawei Kirin 970 10nm processor with i7 co-processor,Mali-G72 MP12 GPU and NPU, has 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and runs on Android 8.1 (Oreo) with EMUI 8.1 on top.
It has triple rear cameras; 40MP (RGB, f/1.8 aperture) + 20MP (Monochrome, f/1.6 aperture) +8MP (Telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture) Leica lenses, new Leica 3x telephoto (VARIO-SUMMILUX-H 1:1.6-2.4/27-80ASPH) lens for long-range photography of up to 5x Hybrid Zoom, dual-tone LED flash, laser auto focus and supports 960fps super slow motion video recording.
It has Master AI and Huawei AIS (AI Image Stabilization), AI stabilization technology that allows you to capture incredible blur-free, handheld shots in low-light using Night Mode. It supports up to 102400 ISO to capture better low-light photos.
It also has dual nano SIM slots, but it doesn’t have a microSD card slot. It has Stereo speakers and support for Dolby Atmos, but it doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack. It is just 7.8 mm thick, but it is quite heavy at 180 grams.
The phone has a curved glass body, but the Twilight and Pink Gold colors have several layers of NCVM optical coatings underneath the glass back, so light hitting the surface refracts and creates a vivid change of hue. It has a 4000mAh built-in battery with support for Huawei SuperCharge fast charging technology. Overall the P20 Pro is a huge improvement compared to last year’s P10 Plus, especially in the camera department. We will bring you the camera samples and the complete review of the phone soon.
At the event Huawei confirmed that it plans to launch the phone in India, but it did not give any date or time-frame. The phone is priced at 899 Euros (US$ 1,114 / Rs. 72,350 approx.) in Europe and will roll out from April 6th.
