Google Maps v5.8 update for Android brings photo uploads and My Places


Google Maps for Android has been updated to version 5.8.0 that brings new features like photo uploading for places, My Places to access starred and recent Place quickly and add new places to check-in. Previous Google Maps update v5.7 earlier this month had features like Transit Navigation and offline map viewing.

Features of Google Maps v5.8.0 for Android

  • Now upload photos for a place you visit and mange them at “Photos for Google Maps” in Picasa account
  • Descriptive terms appear in search results and places page to inform what that place is known for
  • My Places provides quick access to the places you have starred and recent Places and could be accessed from phone’s menu button
  • “Add place” option in the suggested places will let you add new places to check-in

Other than these an experimental feature called “Bigger text” is added to the experimental Labs that increases the text size of labels on the map and the Download map area’ has been renamed ‘Pre-cache map area.
