When Airtel was telling us about 4G launch plans , you might have thought they were kidding as we are still getting used to 3G. But the Airtel 4G website just went live. The 4G LTE networks promises speeds up to 40Mbps. The network uses 4G LTE-TDD technology which supports speeds up to 100 Mbps.Initially access will be based on a 4G USB Modem and then a 4G LTE Indoor Wireless Gateway option would be available. Tariffs look attractive for most users but not for heavy downloaders with plans starting at Rs.999 per month for 6GB and Rs.1999 for 18GB. According to the website the plans will be available both on prepaid and postpaid. You will need a new number for airtel 4G LTE which will be using an USIM module.
Here is the initial launch area in Kolkata according to the website.
If you want to be amongst the first to experience 4G in India, head straight to Kolkata in West Bengal where the service will launch first. It’s coming to Bangalore soon. FoneArena should have an update from Kolkata tomorrow regarding the 4G service launch in that city.
