Baidu Cloud smartphone announced in China


 

Chinese search engine giant Baidu and China Unicom has announced a new phone, Changhong H5018 based on their new Baidu Cloud Smart Terminal platform. This platform integrates the core technologies of Baidu Cloud Computing, including Baidu’s numerous Cloud-based applications, Personal Cloud Storage service, and multi-terminal, multi-application software platform capabilities. It supports WCDMA + GSM Dual SIM with Dual standby and has uni-body design. It comes with 3.5-inch (320×480 pixels) touch screen display and is powered by 650 MHz processor. It has 3MP camera and is 10.3mm thick and weighs 110g.

Other features include, 3.5mm audio Jack, Micro SD card support up to 32GB, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and FM Radio and 1400mAh battery.

The phone has specialized Baidu applications as well as personalized location-based services including traditional search with voice recognition search and handwriting input that lets users to simply speak to search. It also comes with 100GB of free storage on Baidu Netdrive and has other apps such as Baidu Music, Baidu Map, Baidu Mobile IME (input method editor) and other mainstream applications.

The Changhong H5018 is built in Foxconn and is priced less than 899 Chinese yuan (~US$ 140). It would be available soon from designated channels in China including China Unicom.
