NASA launches Spacecraft 3D Augmented Reality app for iPhone and iPad

NASA has launched Spacecraft 3D Augmented Reality app for iPhone and iPad that lets you learn about and interact with a variety of spacecraft that are used to explore our solar system, study Earth, and observe the universe. It uses animation to show how spacecraft can maneuver and manipulate their outside components.

You need a printed AR Target which you could mail it to you from the app home screen or print it from the iPhone or iPad on a standard sheet of paper. It features two NASA missions, the Curiosity rover that will touch down on Mars Aug. 6, and the twin GRAIL spacecraft Ebb and Flow currently orbiting the moon.

When the device’s camera is pointed at the target, the spacecraft chosen by the user materializes on screen. The app will be updated over time to include more spacecrafts such as Cassini spacecraft, which is orbiting Saturn, the Dawn spacecraft, which is deep in the heart of the asteroid belt, and the Voyagers, which are right now at the very edge of our solar system.
