Amazon announces Kindle Fire HD 7 inch tablet for $199


Amazon today updated it’s entire Kindle line up of products including e-Readers and tablets. It has announced the  Kindle Fire HD 7”. This 7 inch tablet comes with a HD display, improved Wi-Fi,  improved HD audio featuring Dolby Digital Plus and offers 16 or 32 GB of storage. The device is powered by a Dual-core 1.2 GHz processor from Texas Instruments. The software powering this tablet is a heavily customized version of Android but since the device is not certified by Google , users would not have access to popular Android features and Google services such as Gmail , Google Maps etc.

The 16GB version will cost $199 and the 32GB version will cost $249. Pricing seems identical to the Google Nexus 7.  If you are looking to buy a Kindle Fire HD and use it in India or in any country outside the US be warned that most of the features are US only. The device can be per-ordered on Amazon.com and is expected to ship on Sep 14th. The 32GB version is expected to ship by October 25th only.
