Take this with a pinch of salt but some of the deep rooted developer pages belonging to Nokia have recently added references to “Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8974” and “Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8274” both of which are part of the new range of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoCs, which are currently the fastest chips on the market, alas with not a single device based on it yet. Qualcomm just announced its support for Windows RT 8.1 by readying its Snapdragon 800 chipsets for it. And now we are seeing Nokia add references to it on its website, co-incidence? While the recently leaked phablet comes to mind, there’s always a possibility of a Windows RT tablet from Nokia, as it has been rumored for a long time now.
These are the exact references from the developer page –
** Changes from Version 1.93 to 1.94 Added new values for dp:Battery http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/Battery/BL_4U_1200 http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/Battery/BL_4YW_2000 http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/Battery/BP_4GWA_2000 http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/Battery/BV_4NW_2000 Added new value for dp:HardwareGraphicsProcessor: http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/HardwareGraphicsProcessor/adreno_330 Added new value for dp:HardwareCPUType http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/HardwareCPUType/qualcomm_snapdragon_s4_msm8274 http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/HardwareCPUType/qualcomm_snapdragon_s4_msm8974 Added new value for dp:CPUCount: http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/CPUCount/quad_core Added new value for dp:DeveloperPlatform http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/DeveloperPlatform/nokia_asha_developer_platform Added new value for dp:JavaRuntime http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/JavaRuntime/v1.0_for_nokia_asha_os_1.0 Added new controlled values for dp:RecommendedJavaSDK http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/RecommendedJavaSDK/nokia_asha_sdk_1_0 Added new value for dp:OperatingSystem: http://sw.nokia.com/DP-1/OperatingSystem/nokia_asha_os ** Changes from Version 1.92 to 1.93 Added Home page (http://sw.nokia.com/WebArch-1/homepage) for dp:DeveloperPlatform https://www.developer.nokia.com/Develop/Windows_Phone/
As you can see above, these are references that are frequently updated to get them as entries into corresponding web pages, or at least that’s what it looks like. The three interesting references are of “Adreno 330” and the other two processor models we mentioned above. The MSM8274 and the MSM8974 are almost the same chipsets, except that the 8974 is multi-mode LTE with support for CDMA networks, whereas the former is just a 3G chipset. Both are powered by the Adreno 330 GPU, which is more powerful than the Adreno 320 that is currently powering devices such as the HTC One.
Are we going to see a Windows RT tablet from Nokia on July 11th alongside the Nokia EOS? Will it debut with all the Windows RT 8.1 improvements? Prospects seem exciting and we feel that it is about time Nokia dipped its toes into the tablet market like countless other mobile manufacturers that did. Or it could be all bogus, we’ll know soon enough.
