The Department of Telecom (DoT) has announced the winners in the spectrum auctions in various circles that ended after 68 rounds. At the end of the 2G auction government got bids worth Rs. 61,162 crore, much higher than their target revenue of Rs. 41,000 crore. It had put 385 MHz of radio waves in the 1800 MHz band in 22 circles and 46 MHz in the 900 MHz band in 3 circles. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) won 1800 MHz spectrum in 14 circles across India, out of 22 circles.
The company announced that it plans to use this spectrum, ranging from 2×5 MHz to 2×7 MHz in each of these 14 circles. It already won pan India 2300 MHz spectrum, so it plans to provide FDD-LTE on 1800 MHz and TDD-LTE on 2300 MHz through an integrated ecosystem. Reliance Jio would pay Rs. 11,054 crore to the government for the spectrum for a period of 20 years . It would pay 33% of the total amount upfront and the balance in 10 equal annual installments after a two-year moratorium, as per DoT’s rules.
Airtel won 1800 MHz spectrum in 15 circles and retained 900 MHz spectrum in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. It would pay Rs. 18,530 crore for the spectrum. Vodafone has also retained 900 MHz spectrum in these three metros and also won 1800 MHz spectrum in 11 circles. Both these companies said they would roll out 4G using 1800 MHz spectrum. It would pay Rs. 19,600 crore. Idea won 1800 MHz spectrum in 11 circles and 900 MHz in Delhi circle.
