Pocket is one of the first apps that I install on a new smartphone and it has been one of the very few apps that I have used since I started using smartphones. Pocket initially started out as “Read It Later” and as the name suggests, it allows you to save the content you want to read in a single place.
Pocket lets you add content from literally anywhere – web, smartphone, apps, or any place you want to share from. Pocket was recently updated to version 5.0 which brought a big UI overhaul and it is now following the same design philosophy. Today, they have updated Pocket to version 5.4 and the update brings about some of the much needed features like Immersive Mode for Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
With more and more manufacturers opting for on-screen navigation icons, the valuable screen space was getting lost for this navigation bar. But Google introduced the Immersive Mode in Android 4.4.2 KitKat which allows the apps to hide the top notification bar as well as the bottom navigation bar allowing the app to completely use the screen estate and that is exactly what Pocket does after the update.
In addition to adding Immersive Mode for Android 4.4.2 KitKat, Pocket 5.4 also brings along the following changes
- Translated into more languages: Chinese, Dutch, Korean, Polish and Portuguese.
- Fullscreen now uses Immersive Mode on Android 4.4 KitKat and hides the status bar on Android 4.1 and up.
- Refined layout and typography, which ensures that headers, images and paragraphs all flow together seamlessly.
- Automatic adjustments to layout and formatting when adjusting text size to deliver the most readable view.
