Zomato adorns a social makeover with new UI and features

New Zomato for Android

Zomato has undergone a major revamp that makes the popular restaurant discovery guide more social. The food directory has added a new social layer which gives users personalised recommendations. For starters, the app has now added mandatory login either with Facebook or Google account. Prior to this users could skip the login process entirely unlike now. This also means that unregistered users can no longer make use of the database to view menus or reviews when searching for a new restaurant.

Now, as soon as you launch the app you will see four main tabs on the home screen viz. Search, Nearby, Feed and Profile. Search lets you search a place as per your need like cafe, luxury dining, drinks etc. while the Nearby tab suggests you place that are around you. Feed is a new feature added in this update that enables users to see updates and activities of their friends on Zomato about restaurants visited, rated and reviewed etc. It basically works like a Facebook News feed. Lastly, Profile puts all your photos, reviews and activity under one tab. Users can access these tabs by swiping to right.

The entire feel of the app has changed and it feels more smooth and responsive. It has been updated so that your search results are more relevant to you personally or socially. For instance, you can choose to follow other trusted foodies and search for restaurants based on their tastes. Zomato has also made restaurant discovery fast with fewer clicks. Enhanced spam-control measures have been implemented to keep out junk reviews.

Available across 12 countries, Zomato has continued its global rollout with launching operations in Portugal. All these updates are available for its web and mobile platforms – Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
