In a bid to enhance its offering and compete with other players, Skype has introduced free group video calling on Mac, Windows and Xbox. The feature which was launched in 2010 was already available, but only to Premium Skype users on these aforementioned platforms for $8.99 per month.
In the future, we’ll be enabling group video calling for all our users across more platforms,
said Skype’s GM, Consumer Marketing Phillip Snalune in a blog post.
These platforms might include Skype’s mobile apps on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. In addition, Skype has also added screen sharing free for all group video calls. Group calling on Skype is allowed upto 10 users, however the company recommends no more than five.
Skype’s biggest competitor is Google Hangouts which already supports free video calling for groups. Earlier this month, Skype announced Cortana control to make call on Windows Phone 8.1.
