Yahoo mobile traffic to surpass desktop by end of 2014: Marissa Mayer

Since Marissa Mayer joined Yahoo in 2012, she had concentrated on mobile and mobile related features and services. All the acquisitions made by Yahoo last year were entirely focused to enhance its mobile offerings. Speaking in an interview at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference Mayer said that mobile traffic on Yahoo will outnumber that on desktop by the end of 2014.

Last year was really the year where we began to make our investment in mobile and we’re late and we’re behind. When I got to Yahoo, mobile was everyone’s hobby.. and no one’s job”, added Mayer.

Giving some numbers she said that Yahoo now has 430 million mobile users, up 43% from a year ago. Mayer also revealed that there are 500 people working on Yahoo’s mobile products now, which is up from about 60 when she started nearly two years ago. She agreed that there is a lot more to do in mobile and will hire talented app designers that will help build the best mobile apps in the industry.

Talking about the future plans with Yahoo, Mayer noted that the company will start incorporating video into its specific news verticals, including finance and sports.
