Acer seems to be on an ambitious plan, charting out a strategy of introducing 8-10 handsets next year. The range of handsets is between low to high end, offering both Android and Windows Mobile Solutions but most likely would prefer Android over the two.
The entry level Android handsets, 3 of them would be outsourced to Foxconn International Holdings, while Windows entry level handsets would be developed by Iventec Appliances.
The mid-range and high-end handsets would be developed using Snapdragon solutions from Qualcomm, while the production will be sub-contracted to Compal Communications.
Acer probably wants to get things right this time, and has set up a huge R&D team of between 400-500 members. All we could do now is wait for the handsets to start appearing in the market to see what Acer could do with the now very popular Android platform. The real performance measure could be the recently available Acer Liquid A1 which has recently started shipping and the reports are still coming in.
