Lenovo, which is one of the leading smartphone makers in India will introduce Windows Phone 8.1 device later this year. Lui Jun, President of Lenovo’s Mobile Division, confirmed the news in an interview with the German website mobilegeeks.de.
Microsoft had announced at the MWC in February that it has partnered with nine manufacturers to expand the reach of Windows Phone. Lenovo is one of these nine partners that will launch a Windows Phone. Along with a smartphone, Lenovo will also enter the wearables market by launching and likely launch its first smartphone.
Currently, very few details and specifications about the smartphone are available but mostly Lenovo will target mid and lower range smartphones. Windows Phone devices are gradually becoming poplar in emerging markets like India and trying to capture low end market size. Meanwhile, Lenovo is securing nearly 5-percent market share and fourth position in the world, almost solely from sales in China.
