Apple adds wake up command and Shazam integration to Siri

In a bid to enhance song recognition, Apple has added Shazam integration to Siri. Apple’s intelligent voice assistant will identify the song from Shazam’s database. If the user asks “What song is playing”, Siri will identify the song and ask the user to buy it from iTunes. This feature was previously leaked last month.

Moreover, similar to “Ok Google” on Android, Siri can now answer with a mere “Hey Siri” command without even touching your phone. Voice recognition is not new to Apple however, prior to this, users had to tap a button to ask a question. Finally, Siri can now take commands in 22 languages but Apple did not specify them.

Siri was the first virtual voice assistant in the market, but with advent of smartphones it is facing competition from Google and Microsoft’s latest Cortana assistant.
