Apple held its annual developer conference WWDC 2014 at San Francisco yesterday and at the event, Apple made a lot of announcements about the upcoming software features. Breaking down the huge 800 million number, Apple explained that more than half a billion of them were iPhones. The Apple iPads contributed 200 million units while the now near extinct iPods sold nearly 100 million. The numbers may be huge, but still don’t give a threat to Google which is yet to announce its number in the coming weeks during Google I/O event.

Last year, Apple announced that it had shipped 700 million iOS devices at the end of September 2013 while Google had announced during May 2013 that the total number of Android activations were more than 900 million. It is worth noting that Apple is the only manufacturer of iOS devices while anyone can manufacture an Android device.

More numbers were shown off during the Keynote and this time it was about Apple’s biggest strength – App Store. Apple mentioned that there are now nearly 1.2million applications and the total downloads is around 75 million till now.
