Reports that surfaced online last month suggested that Google is working on tablets that boasts of advanced vision capabilities that can take precise 3D images of objects. Now, Google has made the tablets official by announcing a prototype for developers.
The 7-inch tablet with mobile Nvidia Tegra K1 processor is filled with various sensors to add 3-D mapping and other advanced scanning software. It has 1080p display, runs a stock version of Android 4.4 KitKat and comes with 4GB RAM, 128 GB storage. The Project Tango tablet has two motion tracking cameras along with integrated depth sensing. The front-facing camera has a 120-degree viewing angle, there’s a 4MP rear camera with 2 micrometer pixels and a motion-tracking rear camera with integrated depth sensor.
It also supports WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy and some models will feature 4G LTE support. Currently, the device is meant for developers, scientists, and other research-oriented groups. As the prototype tablet is equipped with power packed technologies and feature it is priced at $1,024 and will be available in late June from the Google Play store.
Google had announced the Project Tango for smartphones in February this year that can measure dimensions of the surroundings.
