Flipkart to reportedly sell its own DigiFlip branded tablets

Flipkart is planning to sell its own tablets that will be branded under its private label DigiFlip, according to a report from The Economic Times. The biggest India e-commerce giant had sold accessories like headphones, speakers and pen drives under the DigiFlip brand that was launched in 2012.

The report further goes on saying that most of these products are sourced from OEMs like China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and India. Also these tablets will now be manufactured by these international vendors only. Current tablet market in India is crowded with high and low-end tablets from players like Apple, Samsung and homegrown Micromax and Datawind.

A recent report from IDC revealed that tablet shipment in India declines by 32% in Q1 of 2014. In order to compete with these new and established players, Flipkart will have to offer a number of features to their tablets while at the same time get the pricing right. This is not the first time Flipkart is trying to launch products under its own label. Earlier in March, there was a rumor that Flipkart is planning to launch its own smartphone.

The report did not give any further details and specifications about the tablet but it is expected that Flipkart will launch low to medium range tablets.
