Unicode Consortium unveils 250 new emojis that focus on objects

The Unicode Consortium has just updated the Unicode Standard with new emojis, characters and symbols. The latest version 7.0 will bring 250 new emoji characters to iOS, Android and Windows Phone smartphones. This is possible as Apple, Google and Microsoft are among the nine full members of the Unicode Consortium.

Most of the new emoji characters derive from characters in long-standing and widespread use in Wingdings and Webdings fonts. The new emojis will be a mixture of everything from various hand signals to new smileys. It will also feature currency symbols and few historic scripts. The 7.0 update will boast of a total of 2,834 new characters including 23 new scripts. It also has an extending support for written languages of North America, China, India, other Asian countries and Africa.

The unicode images are never in colour and are usually little more than simple line drawing. Few of the new emojis are thermometer, camping, desert, sword, weather icon and so on. You can check out the whole list at emojipedia. It looks like the latest update focuses more on objects and less on people.
