Twitter adds GIF support for Android, iPhone and Web

Twitter will now let you share the ever popular GIF images on its desktop site Twitter.com along with Android and iPhone apps. Users can spice up conversations on Twitter as they can view and share GIFs on all these platforms.

Animated GIFs has been one of the most requested feature on Twitter as they have become an integrated and important element in the internet ecosystem. Twitter announced the support for GIF with a tweet that contains a GIF. In order to access the GIFs, users will have to click a play button similar to a video, as they will not play automatically. GIFs can be uploaded in a similar way you upload photos.

GIF support was long overdue on Twitter. Other social networks like Tumblr and Pinterest already support GIF however Facebook has still kept a distance from these animated GIFs because it thinks they might pollute user’s New Feed. Let’s hope that the big blue social network follows others and allows GIFs soon.
