In a bid to expand its media offerings, Twitter has bought live video sharing and editing platform SnappyTV for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2010, SnappyTV’s technology is used by media and brand partners to edit real time broadcast clips and share them instantly on Twitter and other social networks.
One of the best ways to follow events as they unfold is through real-time videos on Twitter. As we continue to invest in video, it’s important for us to provide tools that make it easy for TV broadcasters, businesses, and event producers to share high-quality videos. To that end, we have agreed to acquire SnappyTV
announced Baljeet Singh,Director, Product Management at Twitter in a company blog post.
This technology helps media partners to quickly tweet out highlights of sports matches or breaking news, bringing attention to their network and allowing existing viewers to share moments.
With Twitter we will continue our commitment to maintaining an open platform for social broadcasting of live events, across a variety of digital platforms. Joining Twitter will allow us to provide an even better product and bring the platform to more content owners and event organizers throughout the world
said SnappyTV in a company blog post.
Twitter is putting more focus on videos and photos for some time now. Just yesterday the micro blogging site added support for GIF on Android, iPhone and Web. The company acquired native ad platform Namo Media earlier this month to expand mobile advertising.
