Yahoo Aviate launcher for Android out of beta, brings new features

Yahoo had acquired Aviate, an Android launcher app at the beginning of this year. The intelligent Android homescreen has left beta and has been launched with a refreshed UI and several other features.

We created Aviate to connect you with the information you need at the moment it’s useful. Since joining Yahoo in January, we’ve learned a lot from our beta user community about how to deliver a simple, intelligent mobile experience. Today, we’re psyched to launch globally as Yahoo Aviate, available for Android phones in English
said Mark Daiss, Product Manager, Yahoo in a company blog post.

Officially dubbed as Yahoo Aviate, the app aggregates your personal and local data to your device’s homescreen according to your needs. This essentially means that the app shows news, clock and weather apps on the screen in the morning. It categorizes apps and pulls in location-based content from various apps and services. The app learns from your daily habits and suggests apps as per your next move.

Swiping up on your home screen now brings up icons for people that you talk to frequently on the phone or via text message. Aviate also surfaces apps as the day progresses which means it will show apps like email, calender and other productivity apps once you reach office. Aviate also organizes your apps into themed collections, such as music, social and news, so you can easily find apps without swiping through multiple menus.

This Aviate update will be for available only in English speaking countries and work on Android 4.0 and higher. Last week, two new Android launchers hit the market viz, Nokia’a Z launcher and Samsung’s Terrain Home.

You can download Aviate from the Google Play Store. Check out the video below to know more about Aviate.
