Google rolls out workaround for the paid app Android Wear bug

Yesterday, there were reports that paid apps are not working properly on Android Wear devices. Now, it looks like Google has taken the issue in their hands and released a workaround. Under this workaround paid app makers are required to manually package files differently.

“The assets/ directory of those apps, which contains the wearable APK, cannot be extracted or read by the wearable installer. The workaround is to place the wearable APK in the res/raw directory instead”,

said Google on the Android developer blog.

Google offers a four-step guide on how to manually package paid apps, and Google says it will issue an update to the SDK build tools that will remove the need for the workaround. The company is accepting that it a temporary workaround and not a final solution for the problem.

Google Play Store added a dedicated Android Wear app section last week that has about 25 apps from various categories ranging from health, social, games etc. Currently LG G watch and Samsung Gear Live are the two smartwatches that are running on Android Wear.
