Skype 5.0 for Android adds contact syncing support

Skype has updated Android app with support for syncing contacts from your phone’s address book. The 5.0 update will prompt users to add their phone number and verify it. It will use your contact list and find users with Skype accounts. After verifying your number the Skype app will use it to allow other users to find you.

“Starting with Skype 5.0 for Android, you’ll be able to connect Skype to your phone address book. This means it’s easier than ever to find contacts you already know on Skype so you can start chatting, calling and sharing instantly.”

The feature will be coming to Android app in coming weeks. Users who don’t want to let Skype access your phone number, can opt out of this feature and manually manage your address book. Also, your phone number will not be displayed in your public profile. You can even change the phone number associated with your account.

Skype also stated that it is working on bringing this feature to other platforms in coming months.

If you use your Microsoft account to sign in to Skype, your address books from other Microsoft services will also be scanned and contacts added to your list.
