Microsoft invested $15 million in location sharing app Foursquare in February this year. Today, the company has integrated Foursquare’s data into Cortana, its own digital voice assistant.
Microsoft announced Cortana, for Windows Phone in April this year to take on Apple’s Siri and Google’s Google Now. The Foursquare integration adds new feature in Cortana that lets you explore places nearby. It suggests places and pulls out data from Foursquare according to your needs. Cortana can easily aggregate this information to give customized suggestions for places to eat or visit.
Under ‘Interests’, you can now add ‘Best Nearby’ option in Cortana. Once you have added it, Cortana will recommend you the places worth visiting nearby you. Earlier this month, Cortana brought football predictions to Windows Phone 8.1 in an update. Microsoft is gradually putting more power in the digital voice assistant service. Yesterday, it was reported that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 update will add several features including an update for Cortana.
