Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, made a surprise announcement today that the much anticipated Redmi Note phablet with LTE would go on sale in China today.
Jun made this announcement via his Weibo (which was followed by an announcement on Twitter), a platform that happens to be China’s take on Twitter. Surprisingly, many an executive have taken to Weibo in the past to make their announcements.
The Redmi Note happens to be Xiaomi’s first phablet, and comes with a 5.5-inch 720p display. The initial non-LTE version of the device comes powered by the MediaTek MT6592. However, this new LTE variant is expected to give the MT6592 a miss for a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC, something that Xiaomi did to the Redmi 1S as well.
We reported about the leaked pictures of the Redmi Note sometime back, if you might remember. It isn’t clear if markets other than China will get the Redmi Note LTE, but we’ll keep you updated on this so stay tuned!
