P Balaji, Managing Director of Nokia India, now called Microsoft devices Group has quit the company. He joined Nokia from Sony Mobile Communications back in July 2012. He will be Advisor to MDG and Ajey in the transition till October 2014, said the company. Current Head of Sales Operations, India Middle East and Africa, Ajay Mehta will be acting as the Area head for India. He will also continue in his current role at the same time.
The company said that P Balaji decided to move on from the organisation for personal reasons. He has been instrumental in helping driving momentum behind Lumia, building the X family of phones as well as strengthening our Retail execution in the country, it added.
Back in April Nokia completed sale of Device & Services business to Microsoft. Last month Microsoft’s new CEO Satya Nadella announced 18,000 job cuts next year and said 12,500 are from Nokia’s devices and services division the company acquired. Microsoft devices still continues to release smartphones under Nokia Lumia brand even after the acquisition. It recently introduced Lumia 530 and its dual SIM variant.
