It seems like Line want to tap the ongoing selfie phenomenon. The Japanese chat messenger launched a ‘Selfie Sticker‘ app for iPhone last month. Today, it is launching a camera app made especially for selfies.
Dubbed as B612, the app is aimed at people who want to take self shots with pre loaded filters. The app which is initially available only on the iPhone uses the front-facing camera only and allows users to take a photo by just tapping the screen. It does not save every photo taken from the device and have to be manually saved. Also, they can be easily shared to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Line said that the app will land on Android soon.
Unlike other apps, users will need to select filters before clicking a selfie. The app offers 43 filters that can be selected by swiping right. Line claims that the app automatically recognizes people, focusing out of the background to highlight faces and bodies. Selfie earned itself a spot in the Oxford dictionary last year in November. It has not only been restricted to apps and social networks as smartphone markers have started to tap into this trend.
Last month Sony released Xperia C3 with 5MP front facing camera that has wide angles and Microsoft is expected to announce Lumia 730 that is targeted at selfie enthusiasts.
