Google and HP in talks for enterprise partnership: Report

Google and HP have been in talks over the past year to boost Android into enterprise. According a report from The Information, the duo have discussed the possibility of bringing a Google Now-like Android assistant to the workplace as a corporate tool.

For example, business users would have the ability to look up company information, such as financial data and product inventory. HP also approached Apple about possibly partnering for the functionality using iOS’s Siri functionality, said the report. Meanwhile, last month Apple and IBM teamed up to push iOS to enterprise customers

HP is also said to have asked for an enterprise Nexus device some time ago, which would have advanced security features and encryption. However, former Android head Andy Rubin was not interested in the idea since HP wanted to add advanced features like hardware encryption which would have drove the costs up and thus contradicted Google’s vision with the Nexus program. Meanwhile, HP is working on its own mobile voice search, which it is internally calling “Enterprise Siri.”
